Solar plane completes maiden flight
An experimental plane, powered only by rays from the sun, has landed safely in Switzerland after successfully completing its first 24-hour test flight. The “Solar Impulse” took off on Wednesday from Payerne airfield shortly after dawn and touched down a day later having proved that overnight solar-powered flight is possible. Clear blue skies meant that the prototype aircraft was able to soak up plenty of solar energy as it made a gradual ascent to a final altitude to 27900 feet or 8500 metres and then flew in darkness using energy stored up during the day. Pilot Andre Borschberg endured freezing conditions overnight and ended the test flight with a picture-perfect landing. Al Jazeera’s Charles Stratford reports.
Solar Flash Steam Cannon Solar Powered Gun Trough Mirror Fresnel Lens
This is the trough mirror and a Fresnel Lens set. The water was shot in with a hose to produce flash steam. Ball bearing were used as ammo. A few modifications from this learning experience and we can launch 200 yards.

PARABOLIC MIRROR 55.7″ PARABOLOID SOLAR POWER STEAM GENERATION Concave Mirror Solar Parabola 2
This is the second video with the 55.7″ Parabolic Dish. The water boiled in 90 Seconds from 50F. The container is a Venom Energy Drink made out of thicker gauge Aluminum. I added some black paint to the back but kept the from because it is a cool design. The drink was too sweet for me:-) This dish was slightly damaged so I softened the dents and corrected the surface. This dish is operating at full strength even with the slight damage. It was like that when I got it. I decided to test this one incase something happened that way I did not damage a near perfect dish. This one also has a center hole for mounting.
Resourceful Guy Builds Solar House, Solar Power, Solar Car
Peak Moment 145: John Weber’s Boise, Idaho house with south-facing windows rarely needs heat and never air conditioning. Meet a man who has built a passive-solar house with solar electric power and solar hot water; plus a solar-powered electric car — and who rides a bike! With photovoltaics tied to the grid, he sells surplus electricity back to the power company. John shows how he converted his “Sun Car” from a junked Festiva to all-electric, with added solar panels on top to extend its range. Ride with us – and hear how quiet it is!
Advanced Photovoltaic Solar Power Films, The Next Generation
www.homemadepowerplant.com A remarkable, new company, Konarka, a solar energy company based in Lowell, Massachusetts, is developing and producing organic thin-film solar photovoltaic films. These photovoltaic films are being printed on an adapted label maker machine. The process is much more cost effect than the traditional method of manufacturing crystalline photovoltaics. Start looking for the cost of solar electric power systems to come down. These new solar energy films could easily become the next-generation solar panels of the future.
Strickland: NW Ohio a solar energy hub
Northwest Ohio is known for its green energy companies. The region was named as a solar energy hub to create jobs by Gov. Ted Strickland during a visit to the University of Toledo on Wednesday. Gov. Strickland said the hub will focus on promoting economic development by attracting new businesses in the solar industry. The partners include the University of Toledo, Bowling Green State University, and several other area colleges that will gelp the solar industry of Ohio continue to grow. “Northwest Ohio has everything that’s needed to attract and support clusters of connected solar businesses and new investments and while doing so to nurture on going and breakthrough research,” the governor said. Companies like Willard and Kelsey, First Solar and Xunlight will make the greater Toledo area the world center for solar power.
