I’m commuting across a harbour with a 3-meter aluminum boat every day, and I am considering to build a cozy, fully enclosed structure onto it to protect me from the elements and the engine noise. Trouble is, I’ve constructed this in CAD, and it looks pretty top-heavy. But I don’t think it is, as it’s going to be all aluminum and PVC windows. I’m only worried about stability when the wind comes from the side – is this too small a boat to put a cabin onto?

A photocell that looked through the glass to transmit a pulse every time the wheel went round would do, if it worked at night and in the day while the wind was blowing tree shadows across the meter.
The pulse could come via a surplus garage door opener clicker.
Some meters seem to have an interface to do this, but the power company would have to license anything that touched the meter.
I’m interested in buying something someone has already worked the bugs out of.
