Hasn’t technology improved enough to build nuclear power plants again?

I know there are issues with Nuclear power, but haven’t they figured them out yet? With all of the oil and energy problems we are having… The alternatives don’t look good either coal (acid rain, strip mining, mine disasters, pollution) Hydro and wind are good, but very limited. How much oild would we save in a year with Nuclear plants?

Why hasn’t Bush been blamed for…?

The floods, ice, and wind that have knocked out power in Western Washington?

It’s a Blue State, after all, should only be naturally for them to blame Bush.

And why aren’t any of those affected by the lack of electricity asking for a $2,000 debit card from FEMA and living in hotels at the expense of the government?
I’m not blaming him…but he was blamed for Hurricane Katrina and various other things that he had nothing to do with…so therefore, why aren’t the bluesters blaming him?
Wow…I’m surprised that the hypocritical Democrats haven’t reported this and had it removed yet.
Mrlebowski 99…it’s Winter time in the North…it’s cold without electricity to heat your home…when the wind knocked out power for over a week now, there are people freezing…is that not a tragedy?

You’re being ridiculous thinking that only one thing is a disaster and another isn’t.
Mrlebowski99…people have lost their homes due to trees and powerlines falling on them.

Anything else you want to argue?

Why hasn’t America done more to promote green power?

Nuclear power plants create huge amounts of energy from very little fuel, and the waste they produce, while admittedly dangerous, is localized and easy to take care of. You have the spent uranium rods, but you basically just need to lock those up and bury those, and wait for the radioactivity to die. Chernobyl was an unusual disaster; they didn’t have any of the advanced safety systems we have today, and they overrode the automatic processes that were there.

We could even just clean up coal. Get rid of the carbon, mercury and other crap. It would work pretty well.

We could eliminate our dependence on petroleum if we took a hint from Brazil.

Solar power needs some time to mature, but if we just used more effective appliances it would work quite well. Same for wind.

Petroleum is just so outdated and dirty. Despite the username, I’m a strong supporter of the free market. I understand how economics come in to play, but money doesn’t mean much if the world’s underwater.
