Where can I find a house plan that incorporates renewable energy and ecologically friendly concepts.?

I want to build a new house that is as independent from the power grid as possible, and recycles as much water and waste and possible. This is in the Dallas, Texas area. I am interested in solar, wind and hydrogen energy hybrids.

We want to go totally “off grid” with solar power in NM. Where is the best place to start?

The cheapest and most cost effective way, please. It will be for a very small home.

Anyone off grid using solar power?

Does anyone use a photovolaic charge controller? do photovoltaic charge controllers REALLY increase the storage of energy into the batteries and increases overall battery life?? what is your experience?
did u make ur own or just buy it??

What are your experiences with solar power?

We are thinking about going completely off grid. Any input is welcomed. Thanx!
REAL “ADULT” ANSWERS PLEASE!!!

Richie..you make no sense..just say thanx for the 2pts and move along…
Wind isn’t a good option for us, we’ve checked the wind pattern map for our area..

Grid tie-in Home Wind Generator, have you any knowledge of this?

I’m investigating the feasability of installing a grid tie-in home wind generator. Has anyone here installed one of these systems into their home’s power system?

It’s my understanding that you can install a new power meter to allow for “net metering” or reversing of the numbers by the created power from the generator, thereby saving money or reducing your monthly power bill.

Is there a forum for people who want to build their own wind turbines and generators and stuff?

I am looking for some website or forum where I can discuss the nitty-gritty of making wind turbines and building anything that enables people to go off the grid and build their own boats, heat sources, alternative fuels, all-natural materials, etc.
Would anyone know where to find that?
Thanks.

Does anyone live partially or entirely off grid?

Off Grid power options?

If so, what type of alternate power system(s) are you using?

Solar? —(I think very expensive and in this part of the country, not enough sun.)

Hydro-electric? —(may be a viable choice if I have enough current running through my stream and or enough head from a waterfall)

Wind? — (If It is installed high enough and does not obscure.)

Diesel Generator—(may be ok if underground, low speed, water cooled)

We are planning to build a log home in up-state Pa. as a second home for now, but our primary residence in a few years.

Thanks in advance for your answers!
