how much would it cost to produce 10% of schools electricity by solar power?

why not retrofit a school with solar power to produce about 10% of it’s electricity. and pay back the gov’t that savings until it is paid back then from that payback point the savings goes to the schools budget. I would think that most schools would be able to have that paid back sooner than the ratio of ten yrs. because of mainly 5 days a week and alot of schools still are not doing year around.

Hi,I am a retied Missionary. I need about 20 one wire 12 volt car alternators. Can you donate any. ?

Setting up an extremly remote 3 part hybrid power system?

I’m in the planning stages. Nothing bought yet. This is a low budget system using common house tools. If needed I can rent. Town is 40 miles away. I’m really trying to avoid that.

The goal: set up a hybrid system using water, wind & solar. I’m planning on using 3 separate charge controllers. Plan to use shunt controllers for the hydro and wind.

Solar: I am planing on starting with a 60 watt kit w/ 7 amp controller to start with.
Wind: I’m planning on purchasing a small 400 watt turbine. The site is on the side of a mountain, next to a nice clear path that has been cut for a pipeline in Eastern Oklahoma. Wind is always there.

Battery bank: I’m currently planning on starting out with 2 or 4 – 105 Amp-hour batteries.

Hydro: The unknown part that I’m asking about is for the hydro. How do I know what size of controller I need for that?

Battery bank: I’m currently planning on starting out with 2 or 4 105 Amp-hour batteries. Need urls to cheapest reputable place on line to buy shunt controllers.
Thanks

Living green and eating healthy on a MAJOR budget?

We’re poor, I’m not afraid to admit it. I’m married with a year-old son and a baby on the way. We’re on CalWORKS (call it welfare if you want to be a jerk), and I just can’t eat as healthy as I would like with food stamps – organic and vegetarian is just not an option for us. I can’t use canvas shopping bags unless I get them for free. I can recycle and conserve energy – but that’s about it.

But I want to DO MORE. Any tips?

What portion of your household budget is dedicated to gasoline?

The reason for this question is because there is a lot of grumbling about the cost of gasoline, now that it has hurdled the $3.00 bar yet again. However, my gas budget isn’t more than about 3% of my entire budget… mortgate, utilities and food are what wipe me clean out. I’m wondering why we complain so much about fuel when we spend so little on it compared to other areas of our lives.

Don’t get me wrong… I’d love to see us free ourselves from oil, so we can reduce our energy bills and our dependence on the Middle East, but I’m not sure if gasoline isn’t just a scapegoat for us.
Not too many answers yet… will wait out some others. In the meantime, I was interested to see an article with some details (see link below.)

I found it interesting that the article stated that the average household budget for gas is about 3%, and I was really pleased to see some sanity restored to the nonsense by the Iowa State Professor:

“Economics professor Peter Orazem of Iowa State University said gasoline costs are about 3 percent of the average household’s budget, so even stark increases in gas prices have a muffled impact on people’s overall expenditures.”

Electronics: How to light an LED?

I’m on a $10 budget for a class. I’m looking at two solar panels:

http://store.sundancesolar.com/minsolpan45v.html

Would I be able to power 10 red LEDs with those panels and which would be better? Also, what supplies would I need (resistors, etc). The LED’s planned to be used:

Btw I should mention the budget is for the retail value of the parts actually used, so don’t worry if the panel and total LED price goes over $10.
