Are you an Alaskan family using solar or other altenrative power, or can you help me contact one?

We’re a suburban family of 4 from Michigan. We’re interested in moving to Alaska to live using primarily passive and active solar power and wind, water, etc… Living completely off the grid isn’t a necessity for us, but isn’t out of the question, either. We homeschool (not primarily for religious reasons), we’re concerned about our impact on the planet (we have been since before Gore’s Inconvenient Truth) , and we’re interested in being a part of a community (we’re not interested in being completely isolated). I would like to contact a family who is living similarly to the way we would like to live.

Why are the oil companies threatening to raise prices of gas if oil is “imported”? Are they too cheap to pay?

I’m talking about prop.87 which is supposed to allow for alternative energy sources such as wind and solar power. Those opposed to the bill are mostly oil companies which would be required to pay a tax on the oil produced in California. { I don’t know if this type of legislation is present elsewhere} But why would we have to import oil in the first place. The same thing was done in Texas and Alaska and no oil was imported from outside sources. Is this just a big scare by the oil companies to keep people from voting for this
proposition simply because it would hurt there pockets? I think that the oil companies have a duty to help stop air polution. And if it takes a bill such as proposition 87 to bring this about, then I think the oil companies can certainly afford it without passing the cost down to the consumer……..

Is oil the poison that breeds so many evils?

Oil, petroleum, black gold. Is it what cause’s so many problems, just look at all the polution it creates from burning it, to spilling it. They say that just the oil that drips from cars in the U.S. in one day is equal to the Exxon Valdez spill in Alaska and it gets spilled alot around the world, especially from ship wrecks in the ocean, it is a dirty substance. Then you have to look at the money it gives to certain forces, People who use it for power from terrorist to politicians. The people who say we have this new world order coming point to old oil people who control it. From the old standard oil to all the oil conglomerates of today they wield power from behind the scenes and it breeds corruption. I for one say, lets get away from oil, find a way to not use it in your life, sell your oil burning equipment or use biofuels like vegetable oil, its alot cleaner and breaks down quickly, think about solar or wind power or a electric car. This is your chance to change course.
