Laptop does not power on?
Dell Inspiron 9100 lap top. When you plug the adaptor into the wall the green light comes on. When you plug the adaptor into the computer, the green light goes out. I have replaced the battery and I have gone through the steps suggested by the Dell wizard but there is no change. There was a storm and the computer was left by the window. I suspect water got into the works. The computer does not come on at all. For awhile it was acting flakey, turning on by itself, even when it was closed. I am certain it was not in hibernate, it was shut down, but several hours later the green light on the computer would come on and when I opened it it would be in hibernate. This happened a lot. The warrenty is expired so dell won’t help me. What can I do?
Thanks for all your help. I have come to realize it is toast. I’ll get a new one (this time a desk top) and keep it against the wall. Thanks again.

I suggest you talk to a Dell technician anyway and possibly they can give you some assistance and you can determine the problem on your own! Or once you have the answer you can have someone else fix it if you can’t do it yourself! That is what I would do! If water got inside, that probably is your problem! They are not waterproof!

I can think of a lot things that will prevent a computer from turning on. 1. bad cmos battery 2. bad motherboard 3. bad voltage regulator. 4. a short somewhere 5. bad power switch
None of which you can fix yourself, not unless you is a technician with expierence in repairing these kind of things.

You may have had a chance to save your laptop after (or during) the storm had you immediately taken it somewhat apart and dried it out, but since you didn’t you’re going to have to get a new laptop. Next time your laptop gets wet, remove the pieces that are easy to remove (ie. the battery, the cd drive if it pops out) and dry it out! i once spilled water on my dell laptop and i took apart as much of it as I could and dried it out and then left it alone for about 10 hours (i went on a cross country plane ride afterwards) and it works fine to this day (it’s been a year and a half). good luck!

I own a PC repair shop for many years, i had this happen to a customer 2 weeks ago…I totally dissasembled the laptop down to the motherboard, then took Fantastic spray cleaner ,and drenched the whole board , both sides, till it runs off the board..Lightly scrub with an old toothbrush to loosen the oxidation, and before the fantastic dries, i throughly air blow off the board with air compressor in my shop. Be absolutly sure it is bone-dry when you ressemble it. You didnt say how long ago this happended, but if it was recenetly, its worth a try. If the oxidation has dried, or many failed attempts to operate it at full voltage didnt work, it may already have burnt parts on the board. That would be non reparable… then I search ebay for motherboards. Youve got nothing to loose at this point!
